THE COLFAX POLICE DEPARTMENT has a history intertwined with the Colfax Massacre that occurred in 1873. The police department has fostered growth and understanding in hiring practices and dealing with the public.
Our team at the Colfax Police Department is comprised of law enforcement officers with diverse backgrounds, including negotiators, S.W.A.T. operators, and Juvenile Justice specialists. We bring a well-rounded view to dealing with the public and safety.

Chief Edward Butler Jr. is a Louisiana native who graduated from Tioga High. He has served with the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office for over twenty years. In 2005, he joined the SRT Team as a Crisis Negotiator after training and receiving certification from the Louisiana State Police. In 2021, he ventured into new endeavors and was appointed Chief of Police of Colfax, LA.
Assistant Chief Banks is a combat veteran with a BS from St. Joseph University in Philadelphia, PA. He joined the Police Department in March 2024. Assistant Chief duties include serving as the Head of Major Crimes and Public Information Officer. Assistant Chief Banks is certified in HRT/ High Rescue warrant, Energetic Breaching Homicide investigations, CQB, and S.W.A.T. Leadership.
COLFAX POLICE DEPARTMENT
Captain Flowers is a graduate of University of Louisiana at Monroe with BA in Psychology and MS in Education Leadership. Specializing in Juvenile Justice. Captain Flowers is attached to Major Crimes.
Officer Jason Loyd has dedicated over eight years to public service. He began his career as a correction officer four years ago before transitioning to patrol officer, where he served for an additional four years. In 2022, he became a P.O.S.T.-certified officer at Lafourche Parish. Officer Loyd holds certifications in Taser, CPR, Defensive Tactics, and S.W.A.T. Officer.
